Chapter 8: Movies I Watched But I Should Probably Read the Book

So I'm in the middle of watching Gone With the Wind, and I realized I've never gone through and actually read the book. It's long and wordy and romantic, thats like my favorite type of book. Heres a list of other books I should probably go read, but instead I watched the movie.

The Lord of the Rings series
Alice Through the Looking Glass
Anna and the King Of Siam
Battlefield Earth (actually I think I read half of it)
Choke
A Clockwork Orange
Dune (tried to read it, toooooooo longgggggg lol.)
Little Women
Starship Troopers
Trainspotting
The Little Princess

This is pretty small and I know theres a lot more, but at least they're movies I enjoyed a lot.

Game of Thrones Update Day: WHILE I WAS OUT...

Alright, while I took a vacation from the internet (I played League of Legends and troll'd noobs on ... Ebaums world....) The Game of Thrones Premiere came and went. I watched (and dragged Zack along, although he had to ask questions about characters I knew on sight) and loved.

If you didn't see it, you need some HBO lovin', which I am prepared to give. Since I do work at a cable company, HBO just came around with all their free swag and a meeting that gave us all info on the new shows for the season. I am now owner of a free dvd with the first episode on it. First person to put their life (or address) in my hands I'll mail it to. Email me.

Episode 2 is Sunday, here's a clip from it! (Protip: Daenerys is my favorite character.)

Here's some pics of the swag HBO left, along with the dvd.

Sweet-ass Stark Direwolf keychain.

Huge Character map (with actor names!)

And the back has pictures! This shit is being postered.

And finally, the dvd. You can win this!

EDIT: FUCKING DOCTOR WHO NEW SEASON ON SATURDAY TOO. THIS WEEK IS BOMB.

Chapter 7: "Ella Enchanted" Gail Carson Levine

I'm going to start with the author. Gail Carson Levine writes what I call "new fairy tales". She updates some of the most well know stories with characters I, as a teenage girl in years past, fell in love with. Ella is just one of those characters. Along with Ella Enchanted, I also own 'Ever' a more mythological story, 'Fairest' a take on Snow White, and 'The Two Princesses of Bamarre'. I love that one almost as much as Ella Enchanted.

Ella Enchanted follows the story of Ella, who as a child was 'blessed' with the gift of obedience. The fairy Lucinda, who gives these gifts like they're the rarest of flowers, does not understand the repercussions of total obedience. As Ella grows, any command given to her she must obey, even if it makes her sick (Eat every bit of that cake!) or is devious (When we race I want you to lose.). Ella is a slave to the obedience. She tries to disobey, but it causes her to be physically sick until she does what the spell wants.

Things get a little complicated when she meets Prince Char, who takes a liking to her. What happens if someone tries to make her assassinate him? She immediately tries to keep herself as far away as possible. When her father marries a new woman and she gets 2 stepsisters, her whole life is turned upside down.

Ella Enchanted is my favorite take on the Cinderella story (I've ready many!) and it's twist of a spell on Ella makes it a memorable one. Like I said last post, Disney tried to make some money off the story and ruined the whole movie with singing and campy looking monsters. They made Ella an activist instead of a normal girl trying to be happy and keep everyone around her safe. I love Anne Hathaway.. but jeez. That movie sucked.

All in all, Ella Enchanted is a short book, and it is for young adults, but I'm still a teenager at heart. It's one of my lasting favorites.

Margin Scribble: No one guessed it!

I'll tell you and leave you a video for the moment, I'm got some casino-ing to do in French Lick.

It was ELLA ENCHANTED.

This as my favorite book as a pre-teen, and even into my teen years. I'll go into a little more depth tonight, but here is a vid from where Disney fucked the whole premise up. (The book has no singing and is about a thousand times better)

Margin Scribble: Haven't been here in a while.

Real life is the killer of all things internet. I have been reading (most of the way though Song of Ice and Fire #2 A Clash of Kings) and working working working. Drove 2 hours to Covington to see a few great bands, and thats the first fun thing I've done in a week. It's spring, I just want to go outside, find a nice warm bench and read the day away. If only. The view from my front yard (Scrambles the cat included) is beautiful, but alas. I just don't have the time.

Anyway, another book review will be coming soon, and it's a book I've read multiple times as a teen. Make your guesses, it's a good one. Hint: There's an Anne Hathaway starred movie about it.

A Game of Thrones Updates

Alright, I finished the first book today, and damn am I hooked. I've already watched all the HBO preview videos (I'm super excited, it looks real good) and now I've started in on A Clash of Kings.

There's also the site The Maester's Path that has a bunch of interactive stuff that I've been playing with.  Pretty sweet.

Margin Scribble: AGALLOCH.

Alright, the concert has come and past, and boy was it good.

Chicago was cold as shit, we waited about an hour in the car and then an hour out of the car, in the cold cold wind, and then finally were let into Reggie's Rock Club to purchase our merch. That's what takes the longest at the concert, Agalloch merch. I was able to take 2 videos before the batteries in my FlipHD died, which the boyfriend has edited and posted for me. Neither of the songs are complete due to battery and crowd issues (I'm freakin' short).

Did you all see Don Anderson sing to me? I didn't at the time, haha.

Video 2. 8 minutes of an 11 minute song? Sounds good.
